An American hunter specializing in big game was killed after being trampled by a herd of elephants during a hunting trip in Gabon.
The well-known hunter, Ernie Dossio, 75, was hunting antelope in Gabon, in central Africa, when the incident occurred last Friday.
While in the Lobi Okanda rainforest, Dossio and his guide were attacked by five female elephants and one of their calves, resulting in Dossio’s death.
According to the British newspaper the Daily Mail, Collect Africa, the safari company that organized the trip, confirmed the death of their client and reported that the professional hunter accompanying him was seriously injured in the encounter.
The newspaper stated that officials from the US Embassy in Libreville are currently coordinating the repatriation of Dossio’s body to California.

American hunter killed
Over the years, the wealthy hunter amassed a large collection of hunting trophies, including animals such as elephants and lions.
The forests of Gabon are home to approximately 95,000 guppy elephants, the largest population of this critically endangered species in the world.
Each year, hunters kill tens of thousands of wild animals worldwide.
Legal hunting trips to Africa are popular with some wealthy Americans, including Donald Trump Jr., who was photographed holding a severed elephant tail more than a decade ago.
