It is unclear whether the latest Iranian proposal, delivered to Pakistani mediators, will be sufficient to bring the US and Iran back to the negotiating table.
An Iranian source told CNN on Friday that Tehran might see a resumption of talks, provided the US lifts its blockade on Iranian ports and Iran fully reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
The US has made it clear that Iran must allow all ships to pass through the strait without any conditions, and it is unknown whether the latest Iranian proposal goes that far.
The source said that Iran remains deeply distrustful of the US and has not understood why the US abandoned the Pakistani talks in the last round.
