Archaeologists have discovered a rare Egyptian mummy from the Roman era, bearing on its stomach a written passage from Homer’s epic poem “The Iliad”.
The mummy is estimated to be about 1,600 years old and was found south of Cairo at a site containing several mummies. Researchers are still studying the papyrus to determine its role in burial rituals, while evidence suggests that the owners of these mummies were wealthy individuals who could afford the costs of mummification.
