Iran executed a man on Sunday after convicting him of belonging to a banned group and involvement in attacks on security forces in the southeast of the country, the judiciary announced.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported that Amer Ramesh was arrested during a counter-terrorism operation in the Pir Sohrab area of Chabahar city in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
It was not immediately clear when he was arrested or when he was sentenced.
Ramesh was convicted of “armed rebellion through bombings and ambushes targeting military forces,” as well as belonging to Jaish al-Adl, a banned militant group.
A court sentenced him to death, and the Supreme Court later upheld the sentence after an appeal by his lawyer, according to the judiciary.
“The death sentence against Amer Ramesh was carried out at dawn today,” the judiciary said.
Ramesh’s execution is the latest in a growing number of executions since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, according to AFP.
