US President Donald Trump asserted that the sanctions imposed on Iran are the most effective tool for exerting pressure, compared to the military option.
In remarks reported by Axios, Trump said, “The sanctions are more effective than bombing. They’re suffocating like stuffed pigs. It will be even worse for them. They can’t have a nuclear weapon.”
He added that Iran “will remain under a naval blockade until the regime agrees to a deal that addresses US concerns about its nuclear program.”
Meanwhile, US sources indicated that Trump had not ordered any military action as of Tuesday evening, while three informed sources revealed that US Central Command had prepared a plan for “short and powerful” strikes should negotiations falter.
These developments suggest that Washington is relying on tightening the sanctions as its primary means of pressuring Tehran, while keeping the military option as a backup.
