US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that Iran had informed the United States that it was “in a state of collapse” and that Tehran wanted to reopen the Strait of Hormuz while it “tried to determine its leadership.”
In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: “Iran just informed us that they are in a state of collapse. They want us to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible while they try to determine their leadership (and I think they will be able to do it!).”
On Monday, Trump indicated that he was unlikely to accept Iran’s latest proposal to end the dispute, after Tehran suggested a plan to reopen the strait while postponing discussions of its nuclear program to later negotiations.
