US President Donald Trump will appear on new passports, scheduled to be issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence in July, in a first-of-its-kind event.
On Tuesday, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said on the X platform, “As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary in July, the Department is preparing to release a limited number of special-edition US passports designed to mark this historic occasion.”
Pigott shared an article from Fox News Digital showing the new design, which includes Trump’s portrait and signature in gold on its inside pages, along with a photograph of the Founding Fathers on Independence Day, July 4, 1776. No sitting US president has ever appeared on a passport before.
A commemorative gold coin bearing Trump’s image is also planned for the occasion.
Since his return to office, several buildings in the capital have been named after Trump, including the iconic Kennedy Center and the US Institute of Peace. Trump also plans to host an IndyCar race in Washington, D.C., from August 21-23, as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
A State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that these passports will only be issued in Washington and will be available in limited quantities.
